About Alexandra Chase
Alexandra “Lexa” Chase is a professional opera singer (coloratura soprano), vocal coach, dramatics coach, choir director, musical theatre director, and classically-trained pianist. She has been sharing her love of music with others since her first vocal performance at the age of eight, and became an award-winning vocalist and opera singer before her 18th birthday. Alexandra studied at York College, where she earned her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance (with concentrations in operatic studies, composition, and music theory), and received various grants, scholarships, and awards for her vocal studies and performances at universities such as Bucknell University, Cornell University, and Mount Saint Mary’s University.
Lexa has studied privately with instructors including internationally-acclaimed opera singer Dr. Karen Bureau, award-winning Carnegie Hall conductor and composer Dr. John Leavitt, vocal coach and regional choir director Dr. Stephen Barton, classical pianist Dr. Melvin Baer, vocal coach and choir director Dr. Andrew Rosenfeld, and vocal and dramatics coach Dr. Suzanne Sweigart. Some of Lexa’s favorite on-stage performances and roles include The Magic Flute (Queen of the Night), Don Giovanni (Zerlina), The Last Five Years (Cathy), Songs For a New World (Woman #1, Lead/Narrator), The Secret Garden (Lily), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Narrator), and Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical (Lucy). She is also a regularly featured soprano soloist for Handel’s Messiah and Mozart’s Requiem in D Minor, singing in venues across the East Coast as well as Europe, and was offered a position with the Paris Opera for the 2020-2021 season.
While singing has been her passion for decades, Alexandra loves to teach people of all ages and backgrounds in voice, piano, and dramatics, and has taught for 27 years in both private and collegiate studios, where she encourages and inspires students to enhance their creativity, challenge their abilities with positive learning experiences, and cultivate their talents for all present and future goals. With a three-and-a-half octave vocal range (belt to E5, general range C3 to F6) and 34 years as a pianist and sight-reader, Lexa has been able to teach students at any level, and in a manner that is most comfortable for them.
When Alexandra is not teaching or performing, she enjoys time at home in Frederick with her 14-year-old teenage rock star, two ridiculously cute cats named Houdini Hermes Horatio and Key Entity Extraction 322: Corvus the Shadow Lifter, and a rescued aquatic turtle named King Philip Claudius III. She can also be found attending local concerts and festivals with her fiancée or at any nearby coffee house, where she drinks hot tea or iced black coffee, writes rock operas and musicals, occasionally reviews concerts for local and regional publications, and (to the amusement and probable annoyance of anyone within a 100-foot radius) belts out random songs by her favorite band, Coheed and Cambria.
